Snapchat Message Circulating In Chandler Urging Hiding COVID-19 Symptoms

Parents are concerned with a snapchat that is circulating around Chandler that is urging people to hide their positive COVID-19 tests and to not report it if they are sick.

Some parents have reported hearing other families with that mentality as well. Andrea Rumsey, a mom of two Chandler Unified School District high school students told AZ Family, "In the mom community, moms are talking about. Parents are talking about it. That is 100% happening."

A screen grab of the Snapchat shows the plea.

It states, "I'm asking this on behalf of all athletes at Basha. Please for the love of god if you get covid or have symptoms don't report it because if you report it, it skrews everyone around you. We have no control over if we get quarantined or not its just exposure. Unless you are high risk there is no reason to report it, nothing bad will happen to you just please think about the athletes (one of my colleagues) who will get skewed out of playing our game."

The end states, "Please take this seriously because even if you test negative for covid you are mandatory out 14 days. Please screenshot and repost to get the message around."

Rumsey's daughter, Miranda, said that she has heard student athletes at her school talk about hiding symptoms or tests so she was not surprised to hear about the Snapchat.

Rumsey's other daughter, Maddie, said that things need to change. "It's just going to get worse and worse if we don't. If people don't start taking the steps everyone is saying we have to, there's going to be no improvement."

A spokesperson for the school district stated, "We encourage all families to keep students home when they have COVID or are being tested for COVID."
