Thomas Rhett and his wife Lauren Akins are set to co-host the CMA Country Christmas television special this year. The couple announced the news during an appearance on Good Morning America on Wednesday morning (November 11).
"We can't wait for you all to get to watch that and get into the holiday spirit with us," Rhett said.
“I feel like this year, everyone’s needed things to celebrate and look forward to and so it was like the second Halloween was over…I started decorating for Christmas," Akins added.
CMA Country Christmas will air Monday, November 30 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC. Performers will be announced at a later date. Paul Miller will direct this year's special, while Robert Deaton will serve as the executive producer and writer.
Rhett previously released a pair of holiday songs, including his original "Christmas In The Country" and "The Christmas Song." He will likely perform both during the upcoming special.
This news comes just ahead of Rhett's scheduled performance at the 54th Annual Country Music Association Awards. The country star will take the stage for a performance of his chart-topping song, "Be A Light" featuring Reba McEntire, Hillary Scott and Chris Tomlin. Akins will also serve as a presenter during the show.
Rhett heads into the big night with a nomination for Male Vocalist of the Year and Musical Event of the Year. A complete list on nominees can be seen here.
Fans can tune in to The 54th Annual CMA Awards, airing live from Nashville’s Music City Center on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 8PM ET.
