Kelly Clarkson Sings Her Heart Out On 'America The Beautiful' Cover

In honor of Veterans Day, Kelly Clarkson decided to opt for a patriotic anthem for the "Kellyoke" segment of her daily talk show.

On Wednesday (November 11), the American Idol champ performed the Ray Charles rendition of "America the Beautiful" to honor the service members in the U.S. Armed Forces. However, Clarkson's rendition was tailored to the chart-topper's soulful voice as she started the performance slow and steady, before being accompanied by piano and guitar backing. Unlike some of her other "Kellyoke" performances, this one required some strong notes and Clarkson wasn’t afraid to let her vocals soar later in the song.

In case you didn't know, "America The Beautiful" was originally written as a poem by Katharine Lee Bates and set to music by Samuel A. Ward in 1910. It went on to become one of the most popular patriotic songs of all-time. In 2005, Charles’ 1972 recording of the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

In related news, Clarkson has been making headlines for rocking an eye patch during episodes of The Voice. Turns out, the star's eye got infected during filming, so she had to own the look. "So obviously today you're going to notice something different about me. I feel like I could be a really great super villain," she said in an episode of the NBC singing competition. "Something got in my eye and it got a little infected, so I have to wear an eye patch."
