Pharrell's been working on Rihanna's highly-anticipated new album and the super-producer has been blown away with his sessions for the LP.
Speaking with Allure for their December/January issue, The Neptunes hitmaker spoke about the pop titan's creative input for the project. "Rih is in a different place right now," Skateboard P said of her new music. "Like, wow. She’s from a different world. I'm willing to bet, because Venus is gaseous, that if they had a telescope that could zoom through all that sh*t, you'd see Rih laying there naked."
Rihanna's studio session with Pharrell, alongside his right-hand production man, Chad Hugo, hasn't been some secret either. Back in February, the singer shared a shot of a soundboard in a recording studio via her Instagram Story. "Gang. back in the STU," she captioned the photo.
Elsewhere in the interview, Pharrell opened up about his own philosophical take on music and its relation to Rih. "It’s like a house. There’s more than one way inside the house. It’s not just the front door," he said. "The side doors, windows, patios. There [are] so many ways, so I don’t know that we have the time to really unpack that. I will say that no matter the scenario, when it comes to music for me, there's always a trigger. It’s just a word in the conversation or a notion, or seeing a situation, or watching a movie. It all depends. And once you find that trigger, it becomes a rabbit hole and then you just kind of go down that. The rest of it is figuring out what the groove is going to be."
In promotion for her latest Savage Fenty launch, Rih told Associated Press that she was making music for herself. "What do I feel personally? What do I want to put out, and as an artist, how do I want to play it with my art? How do I want to interpret that?" she asked. “How do I want to reimagine it because it’s been so structured before."
