Say Yes: Bridal Shop Provides Free Dresses For First Responders

This year has been rough. Concerts have been canceled, events have been postponed, and people around the world are living through the uncertainty of a global pandemic. However, some businesses are making the most of it, all while helping out those at the frontline. Over the weekend, one Gastonia bridal shop attempted to make dreams a reality for some of those impacted the hardest.

Bridal boutique Poffie Girls partnered with the nonprofit organization Brides Across America to provide free wedding gowns for 24 first responders, health care workers, military members and fiancés of those in the military.

"We just felt it in our heart this year that we wanted to give back to those that put their life on the line for us," said Pam Smith, CEO of Poffie Girls. "That just really meant something to us."

Each year, Brides Across America donates 2,000 dresses to military and first responders, totaling 24,000 since 2008. This year, they have included healthcare workers this year who are at the frontline of COVID-19.

"It is one of the greatest blessings ever, I would say," said Dasia Scott, a nurse. "It really makes the whole process a lot easier."

The nonprofit holds the multiple events in July and November as part of its "Operation Wedding Gown Giveaway." They also accept donations that allow them to give brides free dresses for their special day.
