A Louisiana legislator is heading to the White House. Rep. Cedric Richmond announced Tuesday (November 17) that he will be joining the administration of President-elect Joe Biden as a senior level advisor. He will resign from his Congressional seat prior to Inauguration Day in January.
"This is a sad day for me, leaving something I've worked so hard to build up," said Richmond. "But I'm not leaving Louisiana. It's a proud day when a boy that went to Osbourne (Elementary) makes it to the White House."
4WWL reports that Richmond will be a senior advisor to Biden and the Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement. He previously chaired Biden's national campaign and was the former chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus.
Richmond represents Louisiana's Second District, which includes New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and the River Parishes. He was reelected to his Congressional seat earlier this month, but will resign from his position before January 20, 2021.
On Tuesday, Biden announced more senior level officials who will join his administration including Mike Donilon as advisor and Steve Ricchetti as counselor. Last week, Biden chose Ron Klain as his chief of staff, someone he worked with while serving under President Barack Obama.
