COVID-19 Testing Will Soon Be Available At 3 Arizona Airports

The CDC is urging Americans not to travel for Thanksgiving, but if you have to and are going through an Arizona airport, you'll be able to get a COVID-19 test.

Governor Doug Ducey announced on Wednesday that COVID-19 tests will be offered at three Arizona airports: Phoenix Sky Harbor, Phoenix-Mesa Gateway, and the Tucson International Airport.

The tests are not mandatory for travelers but are strongly encouraged.

"As more snowbirds arrive and holidays visitors travel through Arizona, many are entering through the airport. It's the gateway to Arizona," Ducey said.

There are few specifics about the testing sites, but ahead of Ducey's announcement, the Tucson airport said that its testing site will open on Friday, Nov. 20. The testing center will be near the baggage claim and will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. every Friday through Monday. Tests will be free and travelers should get their results back in 72 hours, according a statement from their airport.

“While people should not travel while they are sick, this site will provide early results for those coming into our community who may have symptoms or may be worried about their exposure to others," said Pima County Health Department Director Dr. Theresa Cullen.

Phoenix Sky Harbor will likely be offering testing through XpresCheck, the Arizona Republic reported. XpresCheck currently runs COVID-19 testing sites at New York's John. F. Kennedy Airport, Newark International Airport and Boston International Airport.
