Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed in an interview with the Wall Street Journal that he moved to Texas.
Musk joined the wave of Californians relocating to Texas because he said the Golden State was becoming complacent with inventors.
“If a team is winning for too long, they tend to get complacent. California has been winning for a long time, and I think they’re taking it for granted," he told the newspaper.
CNBC reported last week that Musk told friends and associates he was planning to move to Texas. In May, he reportedly sold his four multi-million dollar homes in Los Angeles after tweeting "I am selling almost all physical possessions. Will own no house."
During that time, he also tweeted that he would move Tesla's headquarters to Texas or Nevada after officials in Fremont, California, told him to shut down the area's Tesla factory to comply with the city and county's COVID-19 restrictions.
Musk and his businesses already have a presence in Texas. His Silicon Valley-based automobile company is building a "gigafactory" near Austin that will manufacture the Tesla cybertruck and semi-truck once it opens in late 2021.
Lately, Musk has been in South Texas, where SpaceX built a launch facility in Boca Chica, a small community outside of Brownsville. SpaceX is planning to launch its Starship SN8 prototype in the coming days.
