Tiffany Haddish Reveals Why She Turned Down Grammys Pre-Show Hosting Gig

Tiffany Haddish knows her worth, so it didn't make sense for the star to accept an offer to host the 2021 Grammys Premiere Ceremony without compensation.

In Haddish's new interview with Variety, the comedian, 41, revealed that the Record Academy offered her the role without compensation, admitting that they said they wouldn't cover hair, makeup and wardrobe. "All of that would have to come out of my pocket," she told the outlet. "I don’t know if this might mean I might not get nominated ever again, but I think it’s disrespectful."

Haddish is nominated for the upcoming ceremony for Best Comedy Album for her Netflix release, Black Mitzvah, at the January 31 ceremony, but that honor wasn't enough to convince her to accept the gig without being paid. "I was like, 'The exposure is amazing but I think I have enough. I appreciate you guys asking,'" she continued. "And as much as I appreciate the honor of being nominated, that’s not OK."

The Grammys Premiere Ceremony takes place before the primetime televised affair and sees most of the year's 83 awards handed out over the course of three hours. As noted by Billboard, a rep for the Academy told Variety that "hosts, presenters and performers are not traditionally compensated for their participation in the Grammys Premiere Ceremony, noting that it is a production of the not-for-profit Recording Academy, not a CBS program like the prime-time awards ceremony."
