Denver Passes $4.1M For Affordable Housing In Five Points

The Denver City Council has approved $4.1 million in financing to help provide affordable housing and medical service for residents experiencing homelessness in Five Points.

The approval for a nine-story Legacy Lofts project was confirmed at Monday (December 14) night's city council meeting, according to CBS4.

The building will be located on 21st and California. There will be 98 affordable units and a recuperative care center with 75 beds.

The future building is currently a parking lot owned by the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless. The Coalition is a national leader in providing housing, health care, and other services and is focused on creating long-term solutions to homelessness.

Units will consist of studios and one-bedrooms and will be income-restricted, according to CBS4. Those earning at or below 30% of the median income, or less than $21,000 per year will be eligible for housing.

The building's recuperative care center will offer medical services to those facing homelessness and people transitioning out of local hospitals and clinics.

CBS4 reports that the Legacy Lofts project is expected to begin construction by the end of 2020.
