5 Star COVID Program Could Give Hope To Businesses In Red Level Counties

The Colorado Department of Public Health is getting closer to starting a 5 Star State Certification Program. The program is designed to accelerate the reopening of businesses in counties under the state's red level COVID-19 dial restrictions.

The program is particularly beneficial for restaurants in red level counties that have been struggling amidst stricter regulations.

If approved by the program, restaurants and other restricted businesses would be able to operate at a greater capacity regardless of a county's COVID-19 dial level.

Counties will have to fill out a checklist of points including how the program will be managed and enforced and what resources the city or county can devote to the program.

Details about who is eligible and what safety guidelines businesses will have to adhere to are expected to be released later this week, according to CBS4.

Colorado's 5 Star State Certification program is modeled after a pilot program that Mesa County implemented to help their local businesses in November.

The program is meant to "encourage businesses to implement safety measures beyond what is already required by public health orders and guidelines that will help slow the spread of COVID-19, and in doing so, be able to accelerate their reopening."
