YUNGBLUD Reveals This 'Weird!' Song Was Inspired By 'Rock Star' Katy Perry

YUNGBLUD released his sophomore album Weird! earlier this month, and during a recent interview with The Daily Star (via NME) gushed about Katy Perry's "punk rock" songs about sexuality before revealing that a song on the new album was inspired by the pop star.

He recalled hearing Perry’s "California Gurls" and "I Kissed A Girl" for the first time, declaring that “all that stuff was so punk rock to me.”

“I don’t know about you, but I don’t remember anyone else at that time doing anything like that,” YUNGBLUD added before explaining how "Cotton Candy" was influenced by Perry, whom he considers “such a rock star.”

“I just wanted a balls-to-the-wall song about sex, sexual liberation [and] fluidity, and talk about everyone’s ever-evolving idea of sexuality,” he admitted.
