This Is Colorado's Unique Christmas Tradition

The holidays look different in different parts of the world and even in different households. In a country as large as the U.S., there's likely to be a lot of variation when it comes to celebrating Christmas.

Every state has its very own special holiday celebration. Colorado's unique holiday tradition is Las Posadas.

The annual event takes place at Tesoro Cultural Center in Morrison. On Christmas Eve Coloradans of all ages and faiths participate in a reenactment of Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem.

The processional features a live nativity scene and children are invited to take part in the festivities by hitting the piñata.

Live musicians play traditional Las Posadas songs throughout the celebration and Mexican hot chocolate and biscochitos are served to participants.

The one-night event is a shortened version of Mexico's traditional nine-day event.

While many of this year's events have inevitably been affected by the coronavirus pandemic, Las Posadas is still taking place this Christmas Eve from 4:00 P.M. - 5:30 P.M.
