Whitmer Reflects On Historic Year - Here's What She Has To Say About 2021

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer says she’s looking forward to the New Year.

That “hope” comes after 2020 posed significant challenges and historic events, from a global pandemic, to protests against racial injustice, to protests of the results of a historic presidential election and much more in between.

In a video on social media, Whitmer took time to review the historic year and to explain her priorities headed into the New Year.

“It is a tough time, to be sure, but we are going to get through this," she said in the video. "We know that tough times don’t last, but tough people do.”

“As I think about 2020, the phrase annus horribilis comes to mind, which means a horrible year,” Whitmer said later of 2020 as she looked ahead to 2021. “But it wasn’t all horrible, because some really good things happened this year and there are sources of inspiration no matter where you look.”

“As we go into 2021, it is my hope we get our economy back up and humming, we get our kids back in school, and that we put Michigan on the path to real prosperity,” the governor continued. “I think we are up to it. I know we are up to it. And I’m excited at the prospect of a new year and a new chapter for all of us.”
