Authorities claim a Florida man "wanted something for the sheriff's office to do," so he allegedly set his vehicle on fire.
On December 18, Okaloosa County deputies got reports of an explosion on Mare Creek Road in Crestview, according to ClickOrlando. When officials arrived, they found a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado burning. Records show that 28-year-old Kevin Murphy admitted to making his truck go up in flames.
Murphy was arrested and deputies found a "a glass pipe used to smoke methamphetamine in his pocket and a folded up dollar bill with traces of meth in his wallet," reporters wrote. According to documents, Murphy allegedly poured gas inside the Chevy's cab and under the truck. He made a trail away from the vehicle and then ignited the flames.
Officials asked why Murphy did it. He said, “He wanted something for the sheriff’s office to do and he wanted to give himself an early Christmas present, so he set his truck on fire,” according to the affidavit.
No one was hurt, but a nearby vehicle and building suffered minor damage, according to the sheriff's office. Firefighters put out the flames.
Murphy was charged with second-degree arson, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
