9-Year-Old Kentucky Girl Sells Cookies To Raise Money For Dad's Funeral

A 9-year-old girl from Fairdale, Kentucky, sold cookies, cake, and other treats outside a local Dairy Queen to raise money for her father's funeral.

Kaylei Miller lost her father, Jason Barton, on Sunday when he was killed in a car crash. Barton was only 35-years-old. He didn't have life insurance and his family couldn't afford to pay for a funeral.

Despite being so young, Kaylei wanted to do something to help her family while honoring the memory of her dad, who is remembered as a hard worker.

“I just wanted to raise money so we could have a funeral for my dad,” Kaylei told WAVE.

Kaylei and her family set up their bake sale at a Dairy Queen on Thursday. Once news of the bake sale spread, cars lined up to help the young girl.

One couple gave Kaylei $1,000 for two chocolate chip cookies when they heard her story on the local news.

Her family says they are grateful for the support they received from the community. They also started a GoFundMe, which has raised over $21,000 as of Friday afternoon.
