Denver Public Schools Returns To In-Person Classes For Young Learners

Denver Public Schools has partially reopened for in-person learning for its youngest learners on Monday, January 11.

Students in Early Childhood Education through fifth grade are the first in the district to return to the classroom for five days a week, according to FOX31.

This is the first phase of the district's plan to return to in-person education amid the pandemic. Middle and high school students will transition back into the classroom in the next coming week, some starting as soon as January 19.

DPS also said that each school's return may look different depending on their size. Smaller high schools will be in-person five days a week while larger high schools may have to use a hybrid schedule.

The district encouraged students to get a negative COVID-19 test result before returning to the classroom on Monday.

For students returning to school, DPS is asking that they get tested for COVID-19 every other week to limit the potential of outbreaks on campuses.

The school district recently announced its plans to make testing accessible to students and staff.

There will be free COVID testing sites available to every student throughout the district. They will offer weekday and weekend hours. Students can expect to get their test results back within 36-72 hours.
