A Middle Tennessee couple was arrested in Putnam County following an investigation into trafficking large quantities of methamphetamine.
Donny and Ashley Jones, of Monterey, were charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of methamphetamine over 300 grams, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office's Facebook account.
A search warrant was executed at the Jones' home early Saturday (January 9) morning, which included the PCSO Narcotics Division, Cookeville Police Department and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Agents discovered approximately one kilogram of methamphetamine -- which is reported to be worth approximately $80,000 street value per kilogram -- two firearms, and an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency.
“Before COVID the price of methamphetamine was very low because the market was flooded with methamphetamine through all the popular routes such as Atlanta, GA," PCSO Sheriff Eddie Farris said. "The price of all illicit drugs has started to go up due to more strict guidelines at the border and shipping routes because of COVID. The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office will continue to track down and investigate those in this community destroying lives and the safety of this community with drugs.”
Donny and Ashley Jones are currently being held on a bond totaling $300,000.
