Katy Perry Closes Inauguration Special With Firework-Filled Performance

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ inauguration day came to a close with a beautiful performance from Katy Perry.

For the Biden inauguration special, Celebrating America, on Wednesday (January 20), the 36-year-old singer, who wore a floor-length white gown, fittingly performed her hit "Firework" as a massive fireworks display went off behind her at the Washington Monument. Newly sworn-in president Joe Biden, vice-president Kamala Harris, and their families also watched on as Katy belted out her beloved track and fireworks lit the Washington, D.C. sky.

Katy first teased her Celebrating America performance on Tuesday (January 19), tweeting a photo of four mics: one white, one bedazzled with the American flag's red and white stripes, one covered in silver stars, and one in the shape of Lady Liberty's torch. The photo was retweeted by the Biden Inaugural Committee, who later announced that she would be performing during the TV special following Wednesday's inaugural ceremony.

Celebrating America performers also included Demi Lovato, Justin Timberlake, Jon Bon Jovi, Ant Clemons, Bruce Springsteen, John Legend, and Foo Fighters.

In addition to the musical performances, the special also celebrated "everyday Americans who have stepped up in their communities" during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
