Midtown Sacramento has recently seen some graffiti pop up in support of restaurant workers during the pandemic.
Signs and graffiti around the area read "Tip 100% or go home."
Due to statewide health guidelines, most restaurants have had to result to curbside pickup and takeout. Since the Greater Sacramento region's stay-at-home order was lifted, many restaurants have been able to resume outdoor dining.
Because of the "new normal" in dining out, many restaurant workers have found that customers aren't tipping like they used to.
"They're tipping still but it's much lower than when they're sitting and getting the full dining experience," one waitress Kriston Schultz told CBS13.
The owner of Localis, Chris Barnum, has seen the signs around the neighborhood and appreciates the support during a difficult and uncertain time.
"This is a really hard time for restaurants," Barnum told CBS13. "I can appreciate the sentiment. We've gotten hit the hardest. It really does make a difference for people to tip."
Schultz says tipping is essential for restaurant workers since the minimum wage is so low.
"$13 an hour? It's not liveable without tips," she said. "the stress level of getting that next tip is awfully high."
According to CBS13, it remains unclear who is behind the graffiti.
