A new survey revealed that 16% of Coloradans are drinking more alcohol during the pandemic now that the weather is colder.
Since the start of the pandemic, alcohol and drug counselors have been concerned about how the situation would affect people's use of both substances.
"I think drinking in Colorado is a very large issue," Sarah Zubrin, Chief Clinical Officer at Mile High Continuing Care told FOX31. "I've seen more alcohol related problems this past year than in the last 12 years I've been doing this work."
A survey from alcohol.org showed that 38% of Coloradans drink even while working from home during the pandemic.
In addition, a new survey from Rehabs.com showed that 1 in 5 Colorado residents admit to drinking more during the colder months.
Even in years before the pandemic, Zubrin said January through March is always the busiest period for treatment centers in terms of new patients looking to get sober.
For anyone concerned about their alcohol consumption during the pandemic, especially during these cold months Zubrin recommends spending time outside to get Vitamin D from the sun, being aware of what you put in your body, and connecting with family and friends in ways that don't involve drinking.
