Colorado Mother One Of Two FBI Agents Killed In Shooting In Florida

One of the special agents killed while serving a warrant in Florida on Tuesday, February 2, was from Colorado, according to the New York Times.

Special Agent Laura Schwartzenberger, 43, was a mother of two from Pueblo and had worked with the FBI since December 2005. She worked in the Miami field office with a squad of agents working on violent crimes against children, reports FOX31.

Schwartzenberger's work focused on investigating and tracking offenders who sexually exploit children online and other crimes against children.

Fellow special agent Daniel Alfin was also fatally shot in the standoff.

"They put their lives on the line and that's a hell of a price to pay," said President Biden from the Oval Office. "My heart aches for the families."

The shooting took place around 6:00 A.M. in the Fort Lauderdale suburb of Sunrise. It is reportedly one of the bloodiest days in FBI history in South Florida as well as one of the deadliest nationally.

Three other agents were shot and survived. Two were hospitalized and are now in stable condition. The third agent did not require hospitalization, according to FBI Director Christopher A. Wray.

"Every day, FBI special agents put themselves in harm's way to keep the American people safe," said Mr. Wray in a statement. "Special Agent Alfin and Special Agent Schwartzenberger exemplified heroism today in defense of their country. The FBI will always honor their ultimate sacrifice and will be forever grateful for their bravery."
