'Hands Off Weld County' Gov. Jared Polis Sends Message To Wyoming Governor

Earlier this week Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon told KOA News radio that he is in support of the small movement of Weld County residents petitioning to secede from Colorado to become part of Wyoming.

They hope to have residents vote on the matter by getting it on the November ballot.

The initiative which started out as a Facebook page and now has a functioning website that takes donations has now evoked responses from both governors.

When asked about "Weld County, WY," Governor Gordon said "We would love that. You know, from time to time states said, 'Gosh, we love what Wyoming is doing,' and so we'd be happy."

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Governor Polis responded to Gordon's support.

"Hands off Weld County, Governor Mark Gordon. Weld County is a thriving part of Colorado and Weld County residents are proud to be part of our great state," wrote Polis.

He then went on to suggest that some Wyoming residents might be thinking of their own secession to join Colorado.

"I do hear from so many Cheyenne residents, on the other hands, they they are culturally, economically, and socially more connected to Colorado than Wyoming..."
