Here's When Sacramento County Teachers Could Get The COVID-19 Vaccine

Teachers working in Sacramento County will soon get the COVID-19 vaccine, according to KCRA3.

Representatives from the county public health department told KCRA3 that teachers will be able to sign up for the vaccine as soon as mid-February. Now, they are communicating with public and private schools to have vaccination sites on-campus.

"Right now the sites we have are Sac State, Cal Northstate and Cal Expo," said public health officer Dr. Olivia Kasirye. "Kaiser, UC Davis, Sutter, and Dignity, are all very interested."

"People are ready to do it and anxious," said David Fisher, president of the Sacramento City Teacher's Union."

In Placer County, teachers have been able to sign up to get vaccinated as early as last week. However, with such a high demand from teachers, not many could get an appointment.

"Right now with the number of doses we are getting in Sacramento County, I don't think [that situation is] avoidable," said Dr. Kasirye.

She says it could take another month before all 23,000 teachers within Sacramento County will get their first dose of the vaccine.

"I wish we could get it all done in one to two weeks, but I know it's not going to be possible," said Dr. Kasirye. "We will continue to provide appointments for teachers until everyone who wants to get vaccinated can get it."
