Last Friday (February 5), Dan + Shay released a heartfelt new song titled "Glad You Exist." Since then, fans have been sharing photos, videos, and stories of how they're connecting with the song which inspired the duo's Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney to do the same.
On Tuesday (February 9), they turned to Instagram to share a side by side video of themselves singing the song along with their families. The clip starts off with just Smyers and Mooney singing together before both of their families join in. Smyers' clip features his wife Abby and their rescue dog while Mooney's shot shows his wife Hannah and their two sons, Asher and Ames.
"Ok real talk: seeing all the photos, videos, and stories of how y’all are connecting with glad you exist has truly meant SO much to us the last couple days. even though we can’t be together in person (yet, but hopefully soon), we’ve felt more connected than ever before," they wrote alongside the video. "Y’all even inspired us to make our own little video with our families, which features an award-winning vocal performance by ames. tag someone in the comments + let them know you’re thinking about them."
Just ahead of the release of "Glad You Exist," the duo shared a message on social media explaining what the song means to them.
"It's a message of gratitude and hope. A message to everyone in our lives: our fans, our friends, our families, to remind them all how grateful we are to be on the planet at the same time," they wrote. "It's truly remarkable when you think about it. We've spent the majority of the past year, like many others, searching for answers and a sense of normalcy, but finding comfort in memories of better days (that we all know will return soon)."
"Concerts, bonfires, road trips with friends, even the simple things like date night at a restaurant, or beers at a bar during a football game," they continued. "This song has taken on a new meaning not being able to see our loved ones in person, but throughout history, music has always had a special way of bringing people together, even when we are furthest apart."
"These words hold a special place in our hearts, and hopefully, they will in yours too," they added. "We've said it before, and we'll say it again (and again). We're just so glad you exist. Every. Single. One of you."
