Finn Wolfhard's New Band The Aubreys Shares 'Sand In My Bed'

Finn Wolfhard fans were sad to hear about his band Calpurnia breaking up in 2019, but it wasn't long until the Stranger Things star started a new project with his former bandmate, drummer Malcolm Craig. As The Aubreys, the duo released their debut EP Soda & Pie last year. Over the weekend, they shared their second single of 2021: "Sand In My Bed."

"The song was inspired by the realization that we hit had [sic] the end of summer, but that we hadn’t really had much of one because of Covid," the band explained to Consequence of Sound. "We were apart from our friends for the most part, not collaborating other than over the internet, and we also had both just graduated. So much should have happened, but there wasn’t much we could do, and the idea was — we’re running out of time. We finally get to water — and our payoff is a ferocious sunburn."

Last year, Wolfhard explained to NME why he decided to disband Calpurnia.

“I think the problem with Calpurnia is that it happened so fast, and there was no real stopping and seeing what was going on. We signed to a label right away, and then with the label deal you have all these commitments with touring and stuff," he said. “But first and foremost, I’m an actor and I’m doing a lot of different things, so it’s really hard for me to do these music commitments. The music part should be the fun part of my life. That’s why Calpurnia was hard and why we had to split up, because it became more like a chore than just playing music.”

With The Aubreys, they're going with a more DIY approach to ensure Wolfhard can juggle his passions.

“[With acting], these are the stronger commitments in my life. But I care about music just as much as I care about acting, so it’s hard for me to say ‘no’ to some things,” he admitted. “I’m learning to pick and choose what I should do, and what the best thing to do is — which is an incredible thing to have at 17 years old.”
