A New Mexico woman is back in jail after her third DUI charge since 2016. Darlene Lujan, 25, was stopped by a state trooper at a gas station after another motorist called 911 to report a drunk driver. Lujan was parked with her younger sister, a toddler, and an infant in the car when the officer arrived.
She told the officer that she was a victim of domestic violence, claiming the father of her infant son showed up and tried to kidnap the child. Her story quickly fell apart after the surveillance video contradicted what she told the officer. The child's grandmother also told police she spoke with the boy's father and disputed Lujan's claims.
Lujan then told the officer she didn't drive drunk and only started drinking after she arrived at the gas station.
The officer then asked Lujan to undergo a field sobriety test, which she failed. She finally admitted that she was driving drunk and that she had her 11-year-old sister blow into the vehicle's interlock device so it would start.
Lujan was forced to install the interlock device after she was arrested for DUI in 2019 when she was clocked driving 117 mph on the highway.
