The Museum For Black Girls is set to open in Denver this Friday, February 19. The museum is an interactive, multi-room installation that depicts the Black female experience.
"The Museum For Black Girls is an immersive pop-up sensory museum where people not only see the art but feel and interact with it," reads the official Museum For Black Girls website. "Being a black girl is an experience!"
The founder of the museum said she started the museum because her daughter was often insecure about her features and she wanted to do something to show her daughter, and other Black girls, that they should celebrate their beauty, according to CBS4.
The first version of the museum was created within a boutique back in December 2019.
Positive feedback came rolling in, earning the pop-up over 70,000 followers on social media. As interest increased, the creators decided to expand to a full museum.
"The museum is ultimately a celebration of self-love," they write. "The aesthetic of the exhibits is vibrant and shows our evolution from the beginning until now...through the lens of black women."
The pop-up museum is located at 1439 26th St. in RiNo. It will be open from Friday, February 19, through April.
