The University of Washington (UW) Medicine said they are no longer scheduling appointments for first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, according to KING 5.
The institution cited a shortage in vaccines and therefore cannot make any more appointments. Reporters said staff wanted to make sure they had enough doses before scheduling again. The health care system administered over 62,000 first-dose vaccines to the community so far, and more than 44,000 people got their second dose from UW Medicine, journalists learned.
Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan announced Monday (March 1) that there will be a mass vaccination site coming to Lumen Field Event Center later this month. Two permanent vaccination sites also opened Monday in Rainier Beach and West Seattle.
Cassie Sauer, the CEO of the Washington State Hospital Association (WSHA) said the recently-approved Johnson & Johnson vaccine could help with supply woes. The one-shot vaccine was authorized the Food and Drug Administration last week for emergency use, and shipments started going out earlier this week.
"We also should note that Johnson and Johnson, we are hopeful that [it will] be arriving here soon," Sauer added.
