Will There Be A State Fair Of Texas In 2021? Here's What We Know So Far

Organizers with the State Fair of Texas are moving forward with plans to hold in the event this fall.

The state fair is tentatively scheduled for September 24 through October 17. Organizers are optimistic that the 2021 fair will happen.

"Planning has continued for the 2021 Fair during this pandemic with an optimistic and measured approach because producing an event of this size and scope, that means so much to so many, requires year-round efforts," state fair spokesperson Karissa Condoianis said.

Condoianis told DFW media outlets that organizers are continuing to monitor the pandemic and will make an official decision about the fair by July. If the fair does happen this year, it won't look like previous fairs, and CDC guidelines will be followed, Condoianis added.

Last year's in-person fair was canceled and replaced with the Big Tex Fair Food Drive-Thru. The Red River Showdown was played at the Cotton Bowl but in front of a much smaller crowd.

Most major Texas events and festivals scheduled for early 2021 were canceled but there's hope that those scheduled for later this year will happen. San Antonio delayed Fiesta until June 2021. In Austin, SXSW will be virtual this year, but the Austin City Limits Festival is scheduled to take place in early October.
