Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey left the world talking after it aired on Sunday (March 7). The two-hour interview was packed with shocking revelations about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's time in the Palace. It turns out, though, that there were even more segments that got left on the cutting room floor.
In the days following Oprah's sitdown with the Sussexes, CBS has been releasing clips that didn't make it into the final cut, including a conversation between Meghan and Oprah about privacy. For the last few years, Meghan and Harry have been widely criticized for their attempts to keep certain parts of their lives out of the public eye. Oprah questioned whether members of the royal family deserve privacy in the same way regular people do.
"I think everyone has a basic right to privacy. Basic. We're not talking about anything that anybody else wouldn't expect," Meghan told Oprah in the unaired clip, published by O, The Oprah Magazine. "If you're at work and you have a photograph of your child on your desk, and your co-worker says, 'Oh, my gosh, your kid's so cute. That's fantastic! Can I see your phone so I can see all the pictures of your child?' You go, 'No. This is the picture I'm comfortable sharing with you."
"And then if they double down and say, ''No, but you already showed me that one. So you have to show me everything. You know what, I'm just gonna hire someone to sit in front of your house, or hide in the bushes and take pictures into your backyard, because you've lost your right to privacy because you shared one image with me,'" Meghan continued her analogy.
Meghan agreed with Oprah to an extent, however, saying she never expected to have complete privacy after marrying into the royal family. At the end of the day, though, she does want the media to respect that they have boundaries. "There's no one who's on Instagram or social media that would say, 'Because I shared this one picture, that entitles you to have my entire camera roll. Go ahead and look through it.' No one would want that," she added. "So it's about boundaries. And it's about respect."
As if to prove her point, Meghan shared a short video clip showing her with Archie and Harry on a California beach with CBS to be aired during the interview. They also released a new family photo following the interview, as well.
