Florida deputies had a strange interaction with a man they say pulled out a package of "Dank Gummies" instead of his driver's license, according to WKMG.
The situation unfolded at a Circle K gas station on Pine Ridge Road before midnight on March 1. Collier County deputies said they were called out to the scene after reports of a man nearly hitting a gas pump. Witnesses claim he appeared to be under the influence.
Demecio Lopez, 40, reportedly asked a deputy for help calling AAA because his car wouldn't start, according to records. Officials said keys weren't in the ignition at the time. Lopez claimed he didn't have the keys and then proceeded to pull them out after rummaging through his pockets, a report said.
When the deputy asked the man for Lopez's driver's license, he reportedly pulled out a small green package labeled "Dank Gummies" instead, records show. Officials added that "cannabis-infused" was also written on the package.
Lopez claimed the gummies were normal candy, and when the deputy studied it further, he saw that the it was labeled as containing 500 mg of THC, authorities said. Lopez also had a pack of "Medicate Nerds ropes" containing 400 mg of THC per rope, according to deputies.
The 40-year-old man allegedly told the deputy that his girlfriend had a cancer diagnosis and a medical marijuana card, hence the THC-infused snacks. Lopez was arrested, and officials reportedly found a small baggie of cocaine on him. He was charged with possession of cocaine and possession of a controlled substance.
