2 Mass COVID-19 Vaccination Sites Open In Colorado

Two mass vaccination clinics opened in Colorado on Wednesday, March 17, reports 9NEWS.

One site is located at the Broadmoore World Arena in Colorado Springs and the other in Grand Junction.

Governor Jared Polis said while vaccinations will roll out slowly, both sites could eventually vaccinate up to 6,000 people per day.

The Grand Junction Convention Center site has already been administering vaccination but was not officially designated as a state site until Wednesday.

More sites are expected to pop around Colorado as the state plans to open vaccinations to all Coloradans when they receive more doses in mid-April.

Polis announced the state will receive an increase of COVID-19 vaccines including Pfizer, Moderna, and the single-shot Johnson and Johnson in the upcoming weeks.

“We are ready for the increased supply,” said Polis during a news conference Tuesday, March 16. “The quantity of Johnson and Johnson vaccines next week is only about 7,000 for Colorado, and the week after next is when we anticipate significant increases in quantity.”

Phase 1B.4 begins on Friday, March 19 and Polis is asking health systems to prepare and update their websites this week.

"We want to make sure everyone has access, and to do that we want to be ready to go from the minute they say it’s time to go," Dr. Michelle Barron with UCHealth told CBS4. "We want you to be able to come in, get your vaccine, and be on your way."
