Here Are Some School Bus Safety Protocols That AZ Parents Need To Know

It's been a whole year since Phoenix Elementary Schools Districts (PESD) students have ridden to school on buses.

AZ Family reported that schools are back in session after Governor Doug Ducey signed an executive order that requires schools to reopen for in-person learning. This gave students one week to find a solution for the safe transportation of students to area schools.

Bus drivers are required to sanitize their buses before and after picking up students in the morning and afternoon.

In addition, students will be required to sanitize every time they get on the bus. Everyone on the bus is required to wear a facial covering and sit in marked, staggered seating.

Transportation Supervisor at PESD Armando Cueller told AZ Family, "This bus is an 84-passenger school bus and can hold 13-14 students at one time."

Before the pandemic began, PESD transported approximately 1,000 students to and from school each day. Now, that number is expected to be somewhere around 625.

Cueller said, "They'll have to load up with what they're allowed to and then have to come back to the bus stop and probably make several trips."

The delay for pickup and drop off should only be delayed by about 15 to 20 minutes.
