Two kids were seen on the wrong side of the fence at a monkey exhibit at the El Paso Zoo.
The now viral video shows two small children standing in front of the barrier separating visitors from the animals.
"Parents are caught on camera letting their children into the chimpanzee area at the El Paso Zoo. Did we not learn a lesson from Harambe?" wrote Instagram user The Real Fit Fam El Paso, which shared the original video.
The kids and their parents weren't caught in the act, but the zoo's director said they would have been thrown out if security saw them.
“We didn’t see it until… the whole thing was over with,” Zoo Director Joe Montisano told KVIA. “But, if we had security, or the staff would have observed them, they would’ve been banned from the park and we would have filed trespassing charges as well.”
Montisano told the El Paso Times that the children were never in danger because a pond stopped them from getting closer to the animals.
"To the best of our knowledge, this has not happened before as there really is no point that the guests have access to the animal areas. Most of the exhibits have two forms of barrier — one for the guests and then a secondary containment from the animals," Montisano said.
Even still, the zoo doesn't want other visitors to attempt the same thing.
"It's really hard to protect the animals from the people and people from the animals," the director added.
