Oklahoma Goodwill Employee Finds $42,000 In Donated Sweater

An employee at a Norman Goodwill hit the jackpot while at work last week.

“Just from working here a month and a half, I’ve realized that there are a lot of things that have been donated. You want to make sure there’s good product, there’s no stains, there’s no holes, there’s no tears, there’s no rips," Andrea Lessing told KFOR.

Lessing was sorting donated clothes when she found two sweaters wrapped together with what she thought was books inside.

Instead, it was stacks of $100 bills. It total, it was about $42,000.

“My first thought was – it’s fake," Lessing said.

It's not usual to have dozens of donations anonymously dropped off at Goodwill, but this time the Norman location was able to find the person who donated the sweaters - and the cash.

Lessing was able to return to money to its rightful owner, but she didn't walk away empty handed. The unidentified owner gave Lessing $1,000 for her integrity. She said she plans to use the extra cash on her 6-year-old daughter.

This isn't the first time large amounts of cash have been found at Goodwill. An employee in Texas recently found $5,000 in a jacket pocket.
