The local crime rate of a city can be valuable information whether you're looking to relocate or just want to get to know your city better.
YourLocalSecurity (YSL) examined the FBI's annual crime data for robbery rates and determined which cities were the most robbed in the country.
According to their findings, a California city is the second most robbed.
These are the top 10 most robbed cities in the US:
- Baltimore, Maryland
- Oakland, California
- Cleveland, Ohio
- St. Louis, Missouri
- Atlantic City, New Jersey
- Wilmington, Delaware
- Homestead, Florida
- Chester, Pennsylvania
- Houston, Texas
- Memphis, Tennessee
With a population of 434,036, Oakland sees 65.87 robberies per 10,000 residents.
Oakland was only topped by Baltimore which has a larger population and sees 81.31 robberies per 10,000 residents.
The study also featured the top 10 least robbed cities in the US which are:
- Twin Falls, Idaho
- Burlington, Vermont
- Hoover, Alabama
- Cheyenne, Wyoming
- Fargo, North Dakota
- Portland, Main
- Rapid City, South Dakota
- Billings, Montana
- Honolulu, Hawaii
- Omaha, Nebraska
To conduct this study, YLS used data from the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting Program and considered robberies as defined by the UCR: "The taking or attempting to take anything of value from the care, custody, or control of a person or persons by force or threat of force or violence and/or by putting the victim in fear.”
