Man In Critical Condition After Being Slashed With Sword In New Orleans

A man in New Orleans was critically injured Wednesday (April 21) after being slashed with a sword.

The Times Picayune/New Orleans Advocate reports the man was walking in the 1300 block of North Galvez Street in the Tremé area of the city around noon when he got into an argument with another man. The argument turned into a physical altercation, according to a police report, ending when the suspect reportedly cut the victim in the stomach with a sword.

The victim was critically wounded and taken to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for his injuries. The newspaper reported Thursday morning that the man was still in critical condition.

According to Audacy, New Orleans police have not said how the argument began or what led to the violent escalation. The type of sword used to slash the victim is also unknown at this time.

As of Thursday, no additional information about the incident has been released. The victim has not been identified and the suspect is unknown.

While a sword is an unusual choice of weapon in modern day, it is not completely unheard of. Last year, a man in Las Vegas was shot and killed after charging officers while holding a large sword.
