An explosion at a steel mill in Pueblo left seven people injured on Saturday night (May 29), reports CBS4.

Firefighters responded to the exposition on the Evraz Rocky Mountain Steel Plant on South Fwy Road at around 5:15 P.M.

"#PuebloFire was dispatched to an explosion at the steel mill today with reported injuries. As details come forth, we hope to keep you updated. Be safe out there!" wrote the Pueblo Fire Department in a Facebook post at 8:10 P.M.

The Vice President of Operations, David Light, later told CBS4 that water was "introduced" to an electric arc furnace and created a "mild explosion."

Seven people caught in the explosion sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries such as bruises and dust inhalation, reports CBS4. They were sent to Parkview Medical Center.

There were three other victims who were critically injured in the explosion.

The Pueblo Fire Department's assistant fire chief told KKTV one of the victims was taken to a burn unit in Denver. All three people are expected to survive.

No other details about the seven people were given from the fire department.

As authorities conduct an investigation, the plant is not operational but officials say it is secure.
