Cleveland’s baseball team bears a new name.

The Cleveland Indians announced in a video on social media channels on Friday morning (July 23) — featuring Tom Hanks and The Black Keys — that the team would be the Cleveland Guardians.

The selection comes after officials considered a lengthy list of nearly 1,200 possibilities. Though the specific options remained under wraps, owner Paul Dolan told the Associated Press last month that the new name would not be one with Native American connotations.

The Indians opted to launch the search for a new name in December, moving away from the name the team has had since 1915. Two years earlier, the team also stopped using Chief Wahoo as a team mascot.

Before 1915, the Indians were also called the Spiders, Blues and Forest Citys, according to the Associated Press.

“Now it’s time to unite as one family, one community, to build a next era for this team and this city…We are loyal and proud and resilient,” Hanks narrates in the 2-minute video. “We protect what we’ve earned and always defend it. Together, we stand with all who understand what it means to be born and built from The Land, because this is the city we love and the game we believe in.

“Together, we are all: Cleveland Guardians.”
