Katie Nageotte is returning to Northeast Ohio with an Olympic gold medal, and there are plans to celebrate.

Nageotte, 30, is from Olmsted Falls. The pole vaulter has said she’s “so excited to see everyone” and is “so proud to be from there.” After earning her medal, Nageotte dedicated it to her hometown: “Cleveland, this is for you.”

Her hometown is gearing up to welcome her back with a party on August 13. It’s slated for 5 p.m. at the Village Green, cleveland.com reported Friday morning (August 6). Olmsted Falls Mayor James Graven told the publication that the event has been weeks in the making.

“We were going to have a celebration no matter what the outcome, because obviously it’s a great achievement just to make it to the Olympics,” Graven told cleveland.com. “The community response has been great, with signs all over showing support for Katie. It’s just been amazing.”

Nageotte is the daughter of Mark and Diane, and sister to Andy and Emily. She’s a two-time national indoor pole vault champion, and studied fashion in Paris in 2013. Aside from pole vaulting, Nageotte is interested in golfing and snowboarding, according to Team USA. Learn more about Nageotte here.
