While chatting with Bustle, Camila Cabello opened up about one of the unique challenges of her pop star career. Due to her busy work schedule, which includes frequent travel, Cabello has found it hard to create lasting friendships.

“I’ve been [working] since I was 15. I’ve been traveling so much, and it’s been really hard for me to water the soil for friendships,” the 24-year-old singer told the outlet. “It’s hard for me to get close to people."

While it's been challenging to forge close friendships with people her age, Cabello notes she considers her mom, Sinuhe Estrabao, is her closest confidante. “[My mom and I] would always, after work, go to dinner. Go get sushi together, go for a walk,” Cabello recalls of some of her busiest, most hectic stretches. “It was always me and my mom. Probably to the extreme. Because I never had any friends.”

Though Cabello hasn't been able to nurture as many close friendships as she may have liked, she has remained tight with fellow pop star Taylor Swift. The pair first became close after Cabello joined Swift's reputation tour as an opening act in 2018. Cabello admits she's learned a lot about true friendship from the 31-year-old hitmaker.

“Taylor has always been so kind and supportive and also goes out of her way to give you artist advice," Cabello gushed. "[She’s] really about making friendships and relationships the most important thing. She is so brave at watering those seeds of friendships and relationships."

When she's in need of some friendly advice, Cabello says Swift “always answers my texts and she’s so busy. I don’t even answer texts because I’m just worse at it. It takes intention to be like, ‘Let me write all my friends back.’”

Cabello also shared some insight into her two-year romance with Shawn Mendes. “I probably have a nurturing attitude because I also like being nurtured. I’m lucky that my partner is the same way,” Cabello said of their relationship. “There’s a lot of sweetness and tenderness. I think we’re both sensitive. I’m really lucky to be able to surround myself with tenderness; it’s really important to me.”
