Lizzo tearfully clapped back at “fatphobic, racist, and hurtful” social media trolls following the release of her latest single “Rumors” with Cardi B — and now, Facebook is reportedly intervening.
The social media giant is reportedly erasing negative comments toward Lizzo, and even removing some of those commenters’ accounts. That’s according to TMZ, which reported Tuesday afternoon (August 17) that unnamed sources with Facebook told the entertainment news hub that officials were monitoring reports of hateful comments on the “Good As Hell” singer’s Facebook and Instagram accounts.
"It's like it doesn't matter how much positive energy you put into the world, you're still going to have people who have something mean to say about you,” Lizzo said in response to the "hurtful" comments in an Instagram Live video on Sunday (August 15). She continued: “I just think when I’m working this hard, my tolerance gets lower, my patience is lower, I’m more sensitive and it gets to me…If you don't like my music cool. If you don't like the song 'Rumors' cool. But a lot of people don't like me because of the way I look.”
Cardi B stepped in to defend Lizzo on Twitter, saying in part: “Whether you skinny, big, plastic, they going to always try to put their insecurities on you.Remember these are nerds looking at the popular table.”
The two women released their first collaboration, “Rumors” — the song and its music video — on Friday (August 13). Watch the music video here:
