An Aurora Police officer came to the rescue of an injured bird, reports CBS4.

Aurora Police Commander Lanigan found the injured bird at a scene on Monday, August 16.

The bird had been hit by a car just as Lanigan arrived. He picked up the injured bird and placed it in the front seat of his cruiser.

Lanigan took the bird to an aminal shelter. It was then picked up by Colorado Parks & Wildlife for a checkup.

"This little guy had just been hit by a car yesterday afternoon as Commander Lanigan was approaching the intersection," wrote Aurora PD on Twitter. "Our feathered friend was safely swooped up & given a ride to the animal shelter to then be turned over to @COParksWildlife. #APDInAction"
