As several Middle Tennessee counties continue reeling from the recent floods that swept through the region, one anonymous man is doing his part to help families in their recovery.
According to FOX 17, a donor from out of town who wishes to remain anonymous has paid for the funerals of all who perished in the catastrophic floods that washed through Humphreys County on Saturday (August 21). The flash flooding that hit the county and the small town of Waverly killed 20 people, including several children, parents, and residents trying to rescue others who were trapped by the floodwaters.
Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis spoke about the close community that has been devastated by the loss of so many of its residents.
"You have to remember something. We're a small county. These are our friends. These are the people we sit in church with. These are the people our kids go to school with," he said. "We're not that big city. We're not detached from who our people are. We are our people. Our people are the ones who put us where we're at. That's who we take care of every day."
The anonymous donor is the newest person doing their part to help the community recover from the floods and the families beginning the process of rebuilding. A well-known actor is setting up stations around the region to collect much-needed supplies while a country music superstar couple have donated to a family who lost their 7-month-old twins in the floods.
