A Denver woman was able to catch the men who keyed her car thanks to the car itself.

According to CBS4, the 30-year-old woman had waited two months for her new Tesla model Y to arrive. Just two weeks after she received the electric car, two men vandalized it by "keying" the driver's side of the car over Labor Day weekend.

“Fortunately the car records everything,” the woman, who requested to remain anonymous told CBS4.

The Tesla has motion-sensing cameras that record nearby activity while the vehicle is parked.

The cameras show two men walking past the driver's side of the car and each scraping the car with a key.

The car was parked in a parking lot in Thornton on Saturday, September 4, while the woman was shopping, reports CBS4.

“I was shocked, my jaw dropped then I was immediately upset,” she said. “If you are going to do something this reckless and stupid you probably have done other things like this before or are more apt to commit another crime. So I hope we can catch them and prevent more of this in the future.”

The woman reported the incident to Thorton Police and shared the video in hopes of identifying the men.

According to CBS4, a similar incident happened in Broomfield in 2019. The video captured by the Tesla led to the arrest of Maria Elena Gimeno who pled guilty to a felony charge of criminal mischief.
