A red-tailed hawk was nearly killed after being hit by a truck going highway speed just outside of Hartsel.
According to FOX31, the driver of the Toyota truck contacted Colorado Parks and Wildlife after hitting the bird on Highway 24, and wildlife officer Ian Petkash came to save the bird.
The bird was able to get away from the crash with only a slight wing injury.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife Northeast Region shared photos of the rescue on Twitter writing, "The hawk was hit while the truck was moving at highway speed. Officer Petkash said it was lucky it only impacted the grill and not the bumper, which must have absorbed a lot of the shock. It had a slight wing injury, but should be fine after a little stint at rehab."
FOX31 reported that Petkash relocated the bird to a rehabilitation facility as it heals.
