A new report ranked Colorado as the safest state for kids online.

The report comes from CenturyLink Quote, which analyzed all 50 states based on the number of internet crime victims, internet crimes against children, malware victims, and cyberbullying and sexting laws.

They collected data from the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center, United States Census, and the Cyberbullying Research Center's Bullying Laws database.

So what makes Colorado so safe for children online?

Colorado has 11 cyberbullying and sexting laws. That number is significantly above the national average which is 7.91. The state also has shockingly low levels of internet crimes against children at 1.21 victims per 100,000 people. And finally, for every 100,000 people, Colorado only has 1.92 malware victims.

These comprehensive cyberbullying laws and a low number of internet crimes targeting children made the state rise to the number 1 spot in CenturyLink Quote's report.

Just last year Colorado was ranked 22nd in the nation for the same report.

“We had a couple states that made drastic improvements, but there weren’t too many that moved from being 22nd to being in the top 10. So Coloradans should be proud their state has made such great strides in the past year alone,” Zoi Galarraga with CenturyLink Quote told KDVR.
