San Diego is suing scooter companies to get them to pay for litigation, according to a recent report from the Associated Press.
The city is aiming to get the companies to pay the costs to defend against any lawsuits generated by the electric scooters that are found throughout the city.
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the city attorney filed suit against Bird, Lyft, and other firms that have signed operating agreements with San Diego to rent scooters.
The companies' operating agreements require the firms to defend the city of San Diego from any litigation related to the scooters, according to the filing.
When the Associated Press reached out to the companies, a spokesman for Lyft said the company does not comment on pending litigation.
Earlier this year, the city planned to take action after increasing complaints about reckless scooter riding in the streets.
CBS8 reported that there are currently six scooter companies with a total of around 10,000 scooters throughout the entire city.
