A Bay Area man has been fighting for the past 3 months to get his beloved cat, Nubbins back home.
Nubbins is a neighborhood cat who has lived in Sonoma in the Railroad Avenue area for several years.
"She was my support cat. That was my friend. That was who I have," her owner Troy Farrell told KGO.
Being an independent cat with a strong presence in the community, her owner wasn't too concerned when she first went missing. But when days turned into weeks, her owner became worried.
According to a report in the Sonoma Index-Tribune, a couple staying at an Airbnb rental allegedly took Nubbins with them to Southern California while Farrel was out of town for Thanksgiving weekend.
A neighbor shared that a woman had asked them several questions about Nubbins and the next day the cat was gone.
It wasn't until a veterinarian in Long Beach made a phone call to Farrell that he figured out what had happened.
“They stole my damn cat!” Farrell told the Index-Tribune. “They then took that cat to the vet in LA and the vet said, ‘This is not your cat. What's going on?’”
Because the person who hosted the couple in the Airbnb doesn't have much information and the veterinary hospital declined to identify the couple, Farrell still doesn't know exactly who stole his cat.
Farrell can only hope Nubbins is returned to her home in Sonoma.
"She means a lot to this neighborhood," said Farrell. "A lot."
